What Are Effect Pigments?

Unlike conventional pigments, "effect pigments" produce a variety of unique visual effects, such as shifting colors depending on the viewing angle or reflecting a shimmering sparkle.

Today, synthetic pigments created through chemical reactions with minerals and metals, as well as base materials coated with another substance, are the industry standard. Among these pigments, those made with mica, metal, or glass substrates coated using the latest technology deliver remarkable brightness and unique optical visual effects. Their key features include interference colors that shift through light reflection and refraction, as well as a level of brilliance that surpasses traditional metallic and pearl finishes.

In this workshop, we welcome SUSONITY JAPAN, a world-leading pigment manufacturer that produces a wide variety of pearl and effect pigments. They will introduce you to the history of effect pigments and the mechanisms behind their unique colors, all while showing actual samples up close. You will also learn about color structures and the differences between the primary colors of light and pigment, as well as compare and experience representative pearl and effect pigments with varying particle sizes and base materials.

You can enjoy discovering the differences in color and sparkle produced by each pigment through seeing, touching, and experimenting to create your own color swatching sheet.
